Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar (1891-1956) was an Indian jurist, economist, social reformer, and politician who is known for his efforts towards the upliftment of the Dalits (formerly known as "untouchables") in India.

Born into a low-caste family, Ambedkar faced discrimination and social exclusion throughout his life. However, he managed to overcome these obstacles and went on to earn degrees from the University of Bombay and Columbia University in New York.

Ambedkar is best known for his role in drafting the Indian Constitution, which was adopted on January 26, 1950. He was the chairman of the Constitution Drafting Committee and is often referred to as the "Father of the Indian Constitution."

Apart from his work on the Constitution, Ambedkar also fought for the rights of Dalits and other marginalized communities in India. He founded the Scheduled Castes Federation and the Republican Party of India, both of which aimed to provide a political voice to Dalits.

Ambedkar was also a prolific writer and scholar, and his works include "Annihilation of Caste," "The Buddha and His Dhamma," and "Who Were the Shudras?"

Ambedkar passed away on December 6, 1956, at the age of 65. He is remembered as one of the most important figures in Indian history and his contributions towards the betterment of Dalits and the Indian Constitution continue to inspire people to this day.
